Drop Stack

The drop stack is a shelf above the sidebar. Drop files on it, navigate wherever you like — another folder, another tab, another window — then put them where you actually wanted them.

It answers the awkward case where the source and the destination can't be on screen at the same time, which otherwise means copy, navigate, paste, and go back for the next one.

Show or hide it with View → Show Drop Stack, or in Settings → Sidebar.

Parking files costs nothing

Dropping files on the shelf never copies or moves anything. The stack only notes where each file is — so parking is free, instant even for huge folders, and Clear empties the shelf without deleting a thing.

To park files, drag any selection onto the shelf. You can drag from Iruka or from another app. Click the shelf's header to expand it and see what's on it.

Putting the pile somewhere

Navigate to the destination folder, expand the shelf, and use:

• Copy Here — copies the parked files into the folder you're viewing
• Move Here — moves them there

Either way the shelf empties afterwards: you've dealt with the pile. Both are undoable with ⌘ Z, which reverses the operation and puts the entries back, so nothing is lost if you change your mind. ⇧ ⌘ Z redoes it.

If a name conflict comes up and you choose to skip a file, that one keeps its place on the shelf — it was never delivered.

Using only some of what's parked

Click a row to select it. ⌘-click adds or removes one, ⇧-click selects a range. The buttons change to Copy Selected / Move Selected and act on just those rows; the header shows how many are picked.

With nothing selected the buttons act on everything, so the common case still takes one click. Clicking the only selected row clears the selection again.

Dragging back out

Drag the shelf's header to take the whole pile, or drag a single row to take just that one. Dragging a row that's part of a selection takes the whole selection.

Drops follow the same rules as any other drag in Iruka: ⌥ forces a copy, ⌘ forces a move, and with nothing held a drag moves within one disk and copies across disks. Dragging out to Finder or another app always copies.

Odds and ends

• Right-click a row for Show in Iruka (jumps to the file in the browser), Show in Finder, Copy Path, or Remove from Drop Stack.
• The shelf is shared across windows — park a file in one window, pull it out in another.
• Its contents survive quitting Iruka.
• If a parked file is moved or deleted by something outside Iruka, that entry drops off the next time you open the shelf. Anything Iruka itself does is undoable as described above.
